Common Use Cases
🌐 Website Optimization
Convert all your website images to WebP for faster loading. Modern browsers support WebP, and you can serve JPEG fallbacks for older browsers.
🎨 Logo Preparation
Convert logos to PNG for transparency support, or to JPEG for printing. Different use cases require different formats.
📧 Email Attachments
Convert WebP images to JPEG before emailing, as many email clients don't support WebP in the message body.
🖼️ Social Media
Prepare images in the right format for each platform. Instagram prefers JPEG, while platforms with transparency support can use PNG.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose quality when converting?
Our converter uses maximum quality settings to minimize quality loss. However, converting from a lossy format (JPEG) to another lossy format will always involve some generation loss. For best results, start with the highest quality original available.
What happens to transparency when converting to JPEG?
JPEG doesn't support transparency. When you convert a PNG with transparent areas to JPEG, transparent pixels are replaced with a white background. If you need to preserve transparency, use PNG or WebP instead.
Why is my PNG file so much smaller after conversion to WebP?
PNG uses lossless compression while WebP uses lossy compression (at our quality settings). The trade-off is a slight quality reduction for dramatically smaller files—typically 50-80% smaller. For most web use, this trade-off is worth it.
Is WebP supported everywhere?
WebP is supported by Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari (since 2020), and most modern browsers. The only notable exceptions are very old browser versions. For websites, you can use the <picture> element to serve WebP with JPEG fallback.
Can I convert multiple images at once?
Currently, our tool processes one image at a time to ensure quality and simplicity. For batch conversion of many images, consider desktop software like ImageMagick or online batch converters.
What's the difference between this and the Image Compressor?
The Format Converter changes the file type while maintaining maximum quality. The Image Compressor reduces file size by adjusting quality settings while keeping the same format. Use both tools together for optimal results.
